About Samuel…

I’m a Cornish craftsman with a deep-rooted passion for woodworking and for my hometown of Falmouth. After completing my City & Guilds in furniture making at Cornwall College, I’ve honed my woodworking skills with a number of local joiners, furniture makers and prestigious yacht builders in Falmouth’s historic boatyards.

I offer contemporary, timeless designs that celebrate the art of woodworking. Using simple and elegant designs, each and every piece is a unique creation, sympathetic to the beauty of our Cornish woods.

I take inspiration from James Krenov, Sam Maloof, and local makers such as Scott Woyka amongst others. I admire their skill in utilising figure in the wood and how they incorporate curves into their designs. I’m also privileged to be mentored by a small number of local artists and craftspeople who give me feedback on design and inspire me with their own creative vision.

By collaborating with fellow creatives, I utilise my network to source windfall trees and surplus wood found in hidden corners of West Cornwall. I am committed to sustainability in every aspect of my woodworking process. Rather than letting these valuable materials go to waste, I repurpose them, ensuring that trees that would otherwise be turned into firewood are given new life. It amazes me how much beauty can be found in native timbers, and I aim to highlight that natural beauty in every piece.
